This study examined the effect of childhood socioeconomic status on depression of middle-aged adults in the life course perspective and tried to identify the path by verifying whether the two variables are mediated by the socioeconomic status of midlife. The Korean Welfare Panel was used for the first year to the twelfth year. Data were analyzed by path analysis and multiple mediation analysis using structural equation model(SEM). The results showed that experience of drop-out of school due to financial strains among socioeconomic status directly elevated the depression level of middle-aged adults. Also, parental education level, self-perceived economic status and experience of drop-out of school due to financial strains increase the depression level of middle-aged adults by indirectly mediating through their level of income and education. These results indicate that to lower the depression level of middle-aged adults, it is important not only to intervene in the risk factors at the time but also to resolve the inequality in childhood socioeconomic status. Based on the results of this analysis, this study suggests the basis of proactive intervention as a way to improve the mental health of middle-aged adults in the life course perspective.
본 연구는 생애과정 관점에서 아동기 사회경제적 지위가 중장년기 성인 우울에 미치는 영향을 검증하고 두 변인이 중장년기 사회경제적 지위에 의해 매개되는지를 검증함으로 그 경로를 파악하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 한국복지패널 12차 년도 데이터를 사용하였으며 구조방정식모델을 활용하여 경로분석과 다중매개분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 아동기 사회경제적 지위 중 생계곤란으로 인한 학업중단경험은 직접적으로 중장년기 성인의 우울 수준을 높이는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 부모의 교육수준, 주관적 경제수준, 생계곤란으로 인한 학업중단 경험은 중장년기 소득과 교육수준을 매개로 간접적으로 중장년기 성인의 우울을 높이는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 중장년기의 우울수준을 낮추기 위해서 해당 시기 위험요인에의 개입과 더불어 아동기 사회경제적 지위에서의 불평등 해소가 중요한 과제임을 시사한다. 본 연구에서는 이와 같은 분석결과를 바탕으로 생애과정 관점에서 중장년기 성인의 정신건강을 향상시키기 위한 방안으로 사전 예방적 개입의 근거를 제시하였다.
Abstract This study applied the action research method to explore the definition and practice of agency-oriented case management and the practical experience of agency-oriented case management through the collaborative work of field and academia. The two-year action research study included young adults in transition to independent living from out-of-home care and independence support workers as field researchers. In the first year of the action research, the principles were developed, and in the second year, the principles were revised, supplemented, and applied in the field. Independence support workers implemented seven principles of practice (recognizing the agency of transition-age youth, defining independence in a broad sense, providing opportunities to experience small accomplishments, acknowledging failure and modification, non-discriminatory support, continuity of relationships, and agency and community support and collaboration) and, through a process of self-reflection with researchers, proposed an action list for agency-oriented transition case management. Based on the findings of the action research, we suggest practical and policy implications for strengthening agency in supporting young people preparing for independence.
초 록 본 연구는 실행연구 방법을 적용한 현장과 학계의 협력적 공동 작업을 통해, 주체성 지향의 <자립지원 사례관리>에 대한 실천원칙을 알아보고, 주체성 지향의 <자립지원 사례관리> 실천원칙의 실천 경험을 탐구했다. 2년에 걸친 실행연구에는 현장 연구진으로 자립준비청년 당사자, 자립지원전담인력이 참여했다. 실행연구 1차년도에는 실천원칙을 개발하였고, 2차년도에는 실천원칙의 수정·보완과 현장 적용이 이루어졌다. 자립지원전담인력은 7대 실천원칙(자립준비 청년의 주체성 인정, 넓은 의미의 자립 정의, 작은 성취 경험의 기회 제공, 실패와 수정의 인정, 차별 없는 지원, 관계의 지속성, 기관과 지역사회의 지원과 협력)을 실행하고 연구진과 함께 자기 성찰 과정을 통해 주체성 지향의 <자립지원 사례관리>를 위한 실천목록을 제안했다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 자립준비청년 지원에 있어 주체성 강화를 위한 실천적, 정책적 함의를 제시했다.
