This study aims to compare the effects of economic insecurity on suicidal thoughts in middle-aged and older adults with and without disabilities. In this study, we analyzed the data from Korea Welfare Panel 7th-14th wave surveys. A generalized linear mixed logistic regression was conducted to examine the relationship considering repeated measurements. The results show that people with disabilities had a higher risk of suicidal thoughts than those without disabilities. The effect of economic insecurity on suicidal thoughts differed between those with and without disabilities. Specifically, there was an independent effect of each factor of economic insecurity; but there was no significant effect in the overall model of factors of economic insecurity among people with disabilities. Suicidal thoughts were likely to increase as the overall income level decreased, income volatility (year-on-year income changes) and family economic hardships were associated with higher risk for suicidal thoughts in people without disabilities. The results suggest that not only the level of economic status but also economic insecurity should be considered in order to improve the mental health of people with and without disabilities.
본 연구는 경제적 소득 수준과 더불어, 중년기와 노년기의 경제적 불안정이 장애인과 비장애인의 자살생각에 미치는 영향을 비교 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위해, 한국복지패널 7차부터 14차까지의 8개년도 자료를 활용해 일반화 선형혼합 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 비장애인에 비해 장애인의 자살생각 경험률이 더 높았고, 경제적 불안정이 중년기와 노년기 자살생각에 미치는 영향은 장애인과 비장애인에서 다르게 나타났다. 장애인의 경우, 경제적 불안정 각 요인의 독립적인 영향이 확인되었으나, 요인들을 하나의 모형에 포함한 결과 유의한 영향은 사라졌다. 비장애인의 경우, 소득수준이 증가할수록 자살생각이 감소하는 가운데, 소득 변동이 노년기 비장애인의 자살생각 증가에 유의한 영향을 주었고, 경제적 갈등 경험은 비장애인의 자살생각 증가에 유의한 영향을 주었다. 본 연구결과는 장애인과 비장애인의 정신건강 향상을 위해 경제적 수준뿐 아니라 경제적 불안정을 함께 고려해야 함을 시사한다.
남성은 직장, 여성은 가정이라는 이분법적 성역할의 틀이 없어지고 있는 현대 사회에서 일-가정 양립의 어려움은 여성뿐 아니라 남성에게도 문제시되고 있다. 또한 일을 하는 노년기 남성이 증가함에 따라 일-가정 양립의 어려움은 성인기와 노년기 모두에게 문제시될 수 있다. 이에 본 연구는 9차 년도 한국복지패널 데이터를 이용하여 성인기와 노년기 기혼남성근로자 집단 각각에서 일-가정 양립의 어려움이 자아존중감, 우울에 미치는 영향을 구조방정식모형을 이용해 확인하였다. 또한 일-가정 양립의 어려움이 우울에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 자아존중감의 매개효과를 검토하였다. 연구 결과, 일-가정양립의 어려움은 자아존중감, 우울에 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 자아존중감의 매개효과는 성인기와 노년기 집단에서 모두 유의하였고, 성인기의 경우는 부분 매개효과를, 노년기의 경우는 완전 매개효과를 보였다. 일-가정 양립의 어려움이 자아존중감, 우울에 영향을 미치며, 성인기와 노년기 집단에서 각각 경로의 차이가 있음을 확인한 본 연구결과는 기혼 남성 근로자 집단을 대상으로 하는 일-가정 양립에 대한 적극적인 지원 방안의 필요성과 연령대를 고려한 개입 방안의 필요성을 보여준다.;Work-family balance is difficult not only for women but also for married working men because their role in housework child care has become as important as their traditional role as the breadwinner. Also, with the growing number of working elderly men, the challenge of balancing work and family can be a difficult issue for the young and old alike. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the association between work-family conflict and depression among married working men in middle- and old-age groups using separate structural equation models for each. In addition, the mediation effect of self-esteem on the above association was also examined. We used a nationally representative sample from the 2014 Korea Welfare Panel Study (KOWEPS). The result showed that work-family conflict had significant effects on depression among married working men. Self-esteem partially mediated the association between work-family conflict and depression among middle-aged men, while this association was fully mediated by self-esteem among elderly men. Our findings suggest that active support policy for men"s work-family balance is needed, and the intervention strategy should be developed considering age group differences.
